Yes, women are on Facebook™ and Twitter™. But, many of us want to take the conversation to the next step – create a community of our own or support a cause. This insight often comes after we’ve shared photos of the kids and grandkids – many, many times!
New blogs and websites are being created by women while you’re reading this. Thousands are popular and are bringing women together – for the environment, politics, health, knitting, careers, cancer research…more every day.
Blogs allow women to share news, stories, life experiences, write memoirs, get a job, beauty tips, career advice and sometimes, just get a grip on the day! Many sites celebrate our stage of life – women in second adulthood – and younger women who will get here soon!
We all have our favorite places to land online.
Here are some of my favorites:
marlothomas.com – it’s about us… you and me!
Have you ever wanted to talk Marlo Thomas? Now, you can! “Monday’s with Marlo,” is a live video chat at 12:30 p. m. (EST) that can start your week with a glow on this wonderful new site. It brings you into the room with Marlo wherever she happens to be! The conversation feels personal and intimate – it’s about you and Marlo.
Everything on her new site re-affirms the real-life connections – through videos, quotes, the laugh of the day and your videos…it is about you, your friends and Marlo and what topics that interest you. It is unique real-time experience online!
MORE – For Women of Style & Substance
MORE has terrific features on celebrities, health, beauty, style, fashion, money and careers. Plus, a focus on Reinvention. The REINVENTION INTITUTE with Pamela Mitchell – their expert reinvention coach – is just one of many terrific resources on this site. I love fashion especially when I think it might look good on me (and I can afford it!).
VIBRANT NATION – What women 50+ know
Vibrant Nation taps into the collective experience of women 50+. This is a lively and engaged community. The combination of experts and those of us “who know” from real-life experiences makes this a valuable site for women in second adulthood.
Members respond to each other… questions, comments and expert features on the site…instantly! You get a diversity of opinions and insights from this group – very direct and honest!
BlogHer – Life well said
The biggest convention of women bloggers took place in New York this summer. They used to call them “Mommy Bloggers.” Now, they call them Powerful!
Thousands of women bloggers are communicating with women – it’s about our real lives and real change. What are they writing about – EVERYTHING! We are making the Internet their own psychic and digital turf.
Women today are tech savvy, cookie smart and concerned about the politics, the economy, environment, families, power and so many other issues! Women to watch are in this online community and you may want to join them.
She Writes – A Room of Her Own Just Got Bigger
Finally, we have it! A room of our own as big as the world! This is the place to find like-minded souls (writers) who are struggling to start a memoir or those who need support along the way, and the ones who are about to publish their story! It’s a mix of everything we love about books, diaries, conversations, secrets, reading, writing and sharing stories.
And., it is really is about who you are and the “How” of getting started, keep going and not give up! A true celebration of “self” that can have ripples of connections and insights going out to the rest of us.
Feisty Side of Fifty/Baby Boomer Women
Celebrating Women 50 and Better
Mary Eileen Williams is one of the most exuberant women on the planet and the Internet. Nothing fazes her. Everything about her is engaging. She’s the spokesperson for the Boomer generation of women, a positive force for all of us.
Her popular blog and her radio program, which you can link to from her site, is a treasure – a resource to enjoy again and again! She’s also an experienced career counselor with a new book: LAND THE JOB YOU LOVE! 10 Surefire Strategies for Jobseekers Over 50. Essential in this economy!
So…click…click…and click again! This is a tiny sampling of what is out there. Take a look and you may be tempted to join a community, a political movement, a book club, make new friends or start your own blog.
Let me know if you decide to start a blog. I promise to visit.
